(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College baseball team dropped a single game with the Oberlin College Yeomen Sunday afternoon at Tewksbury-Delaney Field, 15-3.
Oberlin grabbed a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. A pair of singles gave the Quakers a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the first, but a ground out ended the frame.
An
Eli Hollingsworth single and stolen base gave the Quakers a chance with two outs in the bottom of the second, but a fly out ended the inning. Wilmington got their first run of the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning. After two outs,
J.C. Calhoun roped a double down the left field line before
Kyle Jennings brought him home with a single into left field.
They scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. A hit by pitch and
Avery Battle double down the left field line put runners on second and third with no outs.
Hayden Koonce had an RBI ground out for their first run of the inning.
Braden Chambers then followed with a two out RBI infield single to third base to bring in Battle for their second run of the inning and third run of the contest.
The Quakers tried to rally in the bottom of the eighth for some more runs with a two out single and hit by pitch before a wild pitch put runners at second and third. However, a strikeout ended the frame.
