(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College baseball team lost a 6-2 contest to the visiting Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops at Tewksbury-Delaney Field Wednesday afternoon. This loss drops the Quakers to 5-6 overall this season.
Ohio Wesleyan grabbed a pair of runs in the first inning for an early 2-0 advantage. Wilmington had a runner on third base with one out in the bottom of the first, thanks to a
J.C. Calhoun base hit, stolen base, and a ground out. Unfortunately for the Quakers, he wasn't brought home.
Ohio Wesleyan led 3-0 after two and 4-0 after three frames.
Avery Battle doubled in the bottom of the third, but wouldn't be hit in. The Quakers had a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the fourth but wouldn't score until the bottom of the sixth.
It started with a Battle single and
Dominic Depa double to put runners at second and third with nobody out.
JP Donelan got the Quakers their first run with a sacrifice fly before a
James Crowe pinch hit single with two outs brought in the other Wilmington tally.
The Quakers had one more solid chance to score runs in the bottom of the eighth, loading the bases with two outs, but a fielder's choice ended the inning.
