(MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.) Max Gildea got the start for the Wilmington Quakers, both on the mound and the scoreboard, opening with a first inning double scoring
Dominic Depa, but Gildea gave up 3 runs in the top of the second, in a Quaker 6-2 loss to the Ursinus College Bears in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Friday.
With Depa on second, Gildea smacked the 1-1 pitch to the left-center field fence, scoring Depa for the opening run of the game.
Then in the top of the second, Gildea with two outs and a runner on first, yields a single and a hit batter, loading the bases before giving up a 2 run single.
Gildea then hits another batter and walks in a run before being replaced by
JP Donelan, who gets the final out with a fly to left.
The bats remain quiet until the seventh, when Ursinus gets two more runs across to build a 6-1 lead.
Wilmington scored their final run with a sacrifice fly by
Gabe McDowell to end the scoring at 6-2.
Ethan Bunce went 2-4 from the plate, Gildea went 1-3 with a double and an RBI.
Depa and
Kyle Jennings each scored after hitting a double.
Donelan went 4.1 innings giving up four hits and one run, striking out 3. Gildea's final tally was 1.2 innings giving up three runs on four hits and a walk and two hit batters, but had 3 strikeouts out of his five outs.
The Quakers will be home on Tuesday March 18th against Wittenberg at Tewksbury-Delaney Field for a 3:30 first pitch.
