(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's lacrosse team won their first game of the season Sunday afternoon over the visiting Bethany College (WV) Bison, 11-9.
The Bison found themselves with a 6-5 halftime advantage, but four straight goals from Wilmington to start the third quarter gave them a lead they wouldn't relinquish for the remainder of the contest.
The Quakers improve to 1-1 overall this season, as they will be back in action at home on Tuesday afternoon.
Wilmington held a 4-2 lead after the first quarter, thanks to a pair of goals from
Nick Roca. The Bison stormed back though with three straight goals to start the second quarter and give themselves a 5-4 advantage, and their eventual halftime lead.
As mentioned, Wilmington took back the lead with four straight goals for a 9-6 advantage thanks to a pair of goals from
Caleb Mann. Bethany cut the deficit to one on a pair of occasions down the stretch, but the Quakers held off their rally for the victory.
Notables
- Freshman Caleb Mann scored a game high five goals, giving him seven to start the season. This is the Quakers most goals in a game since Cody Everly and Nick Roca scored five a piece in a win at Warren Wilson College on March 9th, 2024.
- Nick Roca and Garrett Reigelsperger both scored two goals in the game.
- Reigelsperger also dished out a game high two assists and tied for the game high with 15 shots taken.
- Mann and Reigelsperger tied for the game high with eight shots on goal each.
- Noah Pressman had a great day on the face-off, winning 14 and securing a game high nine ground balls. This is the most face-off wins for a single Quaker in a game since Vincent Friesinger won 21 at La Roche University on March 16th, 2023.
- Three Quakers caused one turnover in the game.
- Wilmington took more shots (54) and had more shots on goal (32) than Bethany.
