(AKRON, Ohio) -Â Sondre Haugen surges into the Quakers record book with an amazing performance in the 500 Yard Freestyle, winning the team's first individual Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) title at this year's championship in Akron on Thursday.
Haugen eeked out a win over Mount Union's Dylan Cossin by less than one-tenth of a second, winning with a time of 4:32.59. Haugen entered the finals with the third fastest performance of the prelims, but kept up with Cossin through the entire race, always either ahead or within a second at each split. Cossin led Haugen by a half-second at the final turn, but Haugen turned in his best split of the race, swimming the final 25 yards with his fastest split at 25.92 seconds.
Both of Haugen's times put him in the record books for the 500 Yard Freestyle, first for the 4:40.78 prelims and then beating it again with his finals time.
The 400 Yard medley team of
John Good,
Jo Pedersen, Haugen and
