Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Farley's Late Three Pushes Wilmington Past Mount Union in Alliance

(ALLIANCE, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's basketball team won a huge road tilt Saturday afternoon at the University of Mount Union, 79-77. The Quakers used big games from Domenic Farley and Rashid Chisholm to help lead them past the Purple Raiders for the third time in their last four meetings. Wilmington improves to 5-14 overall this season and 3-9 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).

The Purple Raiders took a quick 12-6 lead early in the first half before a Quakers 14-8 run tied the game at 20-20. Several Quakers played a part in tying up the contest.

Wilmington continued to play Mount Union tough and held a 37-30 lead with 2:31 to play in the first half. This rally was led by five Chisholm points and four points from Matt DeBrosse. The Purple Raiders fought back over the final minutes and sent the game into halftime at 39-36 in favor of Wilmington.

A 17-7 Mount Union run gave them a 53-46 advantage with 11:15 remaining in the game, as they swung the momentum in their favor. The Quakers clawed back and ultimately set up an exciting finish, with the game tied at 69-69 with 2:52 to play.

The Purple Raiders ran out to a five point, 75-70 lead before the Quakers crawled back thanks to the play of Domenic Farley. He scored four straight points to help cut the lead down to 77-76.

The Quakers found themselves in familiar territory, as six of their last seven games have been decided by three points or fewer. After a turnover by each team, a foul put the Purple Raiders at the line for two free throws, where they missed both and gave the Quakers a chance.

Elijah Cathey got the rebound and gave the ball to Farley, who ran up the court and hit a crossover on his defender and launched a three pointer that hit nothing but net to give Wilmington a 79-77 lead with seven seconds remaining.

In a scene similar to last year's game in Alliance between these two squads, the Purple Raiders had a chance to win it. Much like last season, fantastic defense won it for Wilmington as they forced a tough three from Mount Union for the win that was no good.
