Wilmington Unable to Hold Off Heidelberg's Late Comeback

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) - Heidelberg comes back down 13 in the second half to take down Wilmington 87-82.

The reigning Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week Domenic Farley opened the game with a bang, sinking a three for Wilmington after a steal by Izaiah Cathey. The Student Princes pushed ahead until Elijah Cathey hit a three and Ben Golan scored a layup to put Wilmington within one. Each team struggled to get into a rhythm shooting in the first half but continued to trade points. Farley responded to a three by Heidelberg with one of his own to give the Quakers a 21-20 lead with under ten minutes to play.

Heidelberg led by five with six minutes left before Jed Smith nailed a three for Wilmington. Then a steal by Smith led to Farley getting fouled and he made both free throws to tie the game 32-32. The teams traded points in the final five minutes. The Student Princes scored a layup with a minute left and after multiple misses, Farley grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back in to tie the score 40-40 heading into halftime.

Each team remained neck-and-neck coming out of the break. The Student Princes led by one four minutes into the second half before the Quakers went on a big run. Trailing 49-48, Wilmington went on a 16-5 outburst to lead 64-53 over Heidelberg. Elijah Cathey scored five points during the run, featuring three pointers by Matt DeBrosse Kellen Baltazar. Izaiah Cathey score two straight baskets to put the Quakers ahead 68-55 with just ten minutes left in the half. The Student Princes shooting slowed down during the Quakers' run but closed out the game strong.

After Wilmington's scoring spree, Heidelberg responded with their own huge run. The Student Princes went on a 17-4 run over seven minutes in the half. Wilmington's shooting went cold, failing to score for nearly three minutes during Heidelberg's run. A three-pointer by Heidelberg tied the game 72-72 with just three minutes left. Trailing by four with two minutes left, Gabe Green had a layup to put Wilmington within two.
