(ADA, Ohio) - Quakers take down the Polar Bears 88-78 on the road Wednesday night with clutch free throw shooting late.
Wilmington and Ohio Northern went back and forth to open the first half. A steal and layup by Domenic Farley and a three pointer by Zach McGuirt got the Quakers started. The Polar Bears took a 15-9 lead six minutes in before Ben Golan score four straight with a steal to cut Wilmington's deficit.
Ohio Northern's offense gained momentum with ten minutes to play, taking a seven-point lead. Wilmington went on a run started by a steal from Carson Miles who found Matt DeBrosse for the fastbreak layup. Zach McGuirt then had another steal, finding Ben Golan for a transition lay. Golan scored two more buckets to tie the game 28-28 in just one minute. Izaiah Cathey hit a jumper with three minutes left to keep the two tied 34-34.
The Quakers went on a run in the final three minutes, started by a steal by Kellen Baltazar, who found Farley for a layup. Izaiah Cathey sank a jumper in transition as Golan nailed a three with a minute to go. Izaiah Cathey ended the half with a layup to cap a 9-0 run for the Quakers who led 43-34 at the break.
Domenic Farley hit a three out of the break to put Wilmington ahead by double digits 48-37. Trailing 52-42, Ohio Northern went on a big run. The Polar Bears outscored the Quakers 14-2 to take a 56-54 lead six minutes into the second half. Six straight points by Farley and Elijah Cathey retook the lead for Wilmington.
The Polar Bears tied the game 66-66 with seven minutes to play. Wilmington controlled the final minutes of the half. A layup by Izaiah Cathey put the Quakers ahead as they looked to hold onto their lead late. Zach King made two free throws with five minutes to go as Wilmington led by four until an Ohio Northern three cut the lead to just one. A jumper by Farley put the Quakers ahead 79-72 with three minutes left. The Quakers shot 9-10 from the line in the final two minutes of the game. Wilmington's defense and clutch free throw shooting secured an 88-78 road win against Ohio Northern.
