Roye's 2OT Winner Sends Quakers to OAC Championship

(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - The Quakers defeated Capital University in double overtime 3-2 on the road in the OAC Semifinals on Thursday night. Wilmington last hosted the OAC Championship in 2003 when the Quakers won the conference.

Wilmington wasted no time scoring. In the 3rd minute, Jordan Snyder crossed it into Alex Wilson who headed it past the Capital keeper to put the Quakers ahead 1-0 early. Wilson had another shot on target a minute later but it was saved. The Comets came storming back and forced Emma Storck to make back-to-back saves in the 7th and 8th minute.

Capital equalized in the 23rd minute to tie the match 1-1. Neither team was able to mount a threatening offensive possession for the rest of the first half. Both sides ended the half with five shots.

The Comets came out of the break aggressive drawing two straight corner kicks in the first minute after halftime. MJ Little and Snyder alternated shots in the 52nd and 53rd minute but were unable to threaten the keeper. The Quakers' offense remained in control as Wilson and Avery Minteer each had chances although they could not score either.

In the 77th minute, Capital beat Storck on a diving effort to take a 2-1 lead late in the second half. The Comets offense continued to pressure Stock, taking four shots in the final 10 minutes. Wilmington countered effectively and in the 89th minute MJ Little shot from distance beat Capital's keeper and tied the match 2-2 to force a golden-goal overtime.

Capital's offense continued its barrage in the first overtime. Wilmington only had one shot in the first period and it was off target. In the 99th minute Storck made an incredible diving save to thwart the Comets. Capital took four shots in the first overtime while the Quakers only had one.

Emma Storck made another great save to open the second overtime in the 102nd minute. After Wilmington drew a corner kick, the ball fell around the box and Olivia Roye struck the loose ball into the net to clinch a 3-2 double overtime victory for the Quakers.
