(WILMINGTON, Ohio) - Wilmington fell in three sets to Oberlin College on Tuesday night.
The Quakers and Yeowomen were neck and neck in the first set. Wilmington took a 9-7 lead on a kill by Addison Sparks, but Oberlin went on a 6-0 run to take a 13-9 lead. Service aces from Logan McQuillin and Mia Spence brought the set to a 14-14 tie. The Yeowomen jumped ahead 24-19, but two straight kills by Sparks and Sarah Brown put the Quakers within two. Wilmington cut the score to 24-23, but Oberlin clinched the first set 25-23.
Once again, each team went back and forth in the second set. Tied 12-12, the Yeowomen went on a 5-0 run to lead 17-12. The Quakers cut the deficit to one, trailing 21-20 thanks to blocks by Magee Fain, Sarah Brown, Brinlee Preston, and Emelia Mohler. Oberlin pulled away and took the second set 25-21.
The Yeowomen took a 10-6 lead to open the third set. Magee Fain and Sarah Brown each had a kill to trail by one. Wilmington kept close with Oberlin, continuously cutting the Yeowomen's lead to just one. The Quakers cut the lead to 22-20, but Oberlin took the third set 25-20 to sweep the match.
