Wilmington Falls on the Road at Wittenberg

(SPRINGFIELD, Ohio) - Wilmington struggles in second half in 82-65 loss to Wittenberg.

Carson Miles put the Quakers ahead 5-0 three minutes into the first half, making a layup and a three pointer. Wittenberg pushed back to take a 17-11 lead with ten minutes left, but neither team got into a shooting rhythm. A layup from Domenic Farley and a tip in by Matt DeBrosse put Wilmington within three down 18-15. The Quakers' rebounding kept the score tight as Elijah Cathey sank a jump shot to tie the score 21-21 with under six minutes left.

The Tigers and Quakers alternated leads in the final five minutes. Both teams struggled for a two-minute stretch until Miles hit another jumper to give Wilmington a 31-30 lead with two minutes left. Wittenberg hit a buzzer-beater three to end the half with a 34-31 lead.

Wilmington retook the lead 39-38 four minutes out of halftime, going on an 8-4 run. Wittenberg then went on their own run, outscoring Wilmington 14-4 to take a 52-43 lead with twelve minutes remaining in the second half. Farley converted an and-one and made a layup to cut the Quakers' deficit to nine, 59-50. The Tigers continued to extend their lead as the Quakers shooting struggled began to hurt their comeback efforts.

With five minutes left, the Tigers took their largest lead of the night by 18, leading 70-52. DeBrosse nailed a three-pointer, and Farley scored five points in a minute stretch to cut the score to 75-63. Wittenberg's stout shooting and strong defense propelled the Tigers to an 82-65 victory over the Quakers.
