(RICHMOND, Ind.) - Wilmington wins their third straight 94-80 Quaker Bowl to open their season.
The Quakers jumped ahead right away in the first half. Ben Golan opened the scoring for Wilmington with a three-pointer, and the Quakers' offense was in control over the rest of the half. Golan went to the line twice after his three-pointer and scored all of Wilmington's seven points to start.
Gabe Green nailed a three to extend the lead to 16-8 over Earlham. Matt DeBrosse was picking pockets all half, as he turned a steal into two points going up 18-10 heading into a media timeout. DeBrosse had another steal and layup out of the break to take an eleven-point lead.
Wilmington outscored Earlham 19-16 in the final ten minutes of the first half, featuring three pointers from Jed Smith, Gabe Green, and Izaiah Cathey. Strong defense and good ball movement kept Earlham at bay. The Quakers led 47-30 going into the break thanks to excellent shooting.
The Quakers went 7-14 from the three-point line in the first half, while shooting 70.6% from the line. Golan scored 11 points and DeBrosse had 10, with three steals. Gabe Green added nine and Elijah Cathey had seven points.
Earlham came out of the break on a 13-2 run to cut Wilmington's lead to 49-43. Wilmington only scored two points in the first four-plus minutes following halftime. Elijah Cathey and DeBrosse then combined for nine points to put the Quakers ahead 58-47 with thirteen minutes to play.
With seven minutes to go, Earlham nailed a three pointer to cut Wilmington's lead to just six, 72-66. Izaiah Cathey responded with a layup, but Earlham went right back for their own. Earlham cut the lead to three, 74-71, before a huge three by Gabe Green extended Wilmington's lead again.
Domenic Farley hit a three with two minutes to go, giving the Quakers an 84-75 lead. Wilmington's defense and free-throw shooting closed out the game to give the Quakers a 94-80 victory on opening night.
