(NEW CONCORD, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's soccer team won their second game in a row Wednesday night on the road, 2-1 over the Muskingum University Fighting Muskies to move to 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) and 9-2-2 overall.
The Muskies went ahead in the 21st minute on a Morgan McKenna goal to put the Quakers in a 1-0 hole. Wilmington put four shots on goal and took nine shots in the first half, but couldn't get any past the keeper, as they trailed at the break.
It took 16 shots in the second half, but the Quakers finally broke through in the 79th minute of action. After a corner kick from senior
Kaden Young, there was a mad scramble to the ball where freshman
Vigor Karlsson was able to get his foot on it and bounce it past the keeper to tie the game at 1-1.
Another corner kick came for the Quakers in the 83rd minute, where once again Young sent the ball into the box. This time, freshman
Brayden Spencer flew through the air to head the ball into the back of the net for a 2-1 Quakers lead in what turned out to be the game-winner.
Notables
- Vigor Karlsson scored the first goal of his collegiate career, while Brayden Spencer found the net for the second time during his freshman campaign.
- Kaden Young recorded two assists in a game for just the second time in his career, with the other coming during his sophomore season on October 28th, 2023, against Heidelberg University. He has four assists this year.
- Sophomore Parker Burke led the team with six shots, while Karlsson led the team with three shots on goal.
- Freshman Judah Hanks made one save in goal for Wilmington, playing all 90 minutes.
- For just the second time this season the Quakers had 30 or more shots (34 vs. Adrian College), as they took exactly 30 with 11 on goal. Their 11 shots on goal is tied for third most in a game this season.
- Wilmington had six corner kicks to the Muskies three.
