(WILMINGTON, Ohio) - The Polar Bears swept Wilmington in three competitive sets on Wednesday night.
The Quakers and Polar Bears traded the lead to begin the first set. Trailing 11-10, Wilmington scored four straight points, sparked by a kill by Sarah Brown and a service ace from Emelia Mohler, to lead 14-11. Ohio Northern pushed back to tie the set at 18-18. Two straight kills by Magee Fain and Emelia Mohler, with a block by Brown and Fain, put Wilmington ahead 22-19 late. The Polar Bears rallied back as the set was tied 23-23 late, but Ohio Northern closed the set 25-23.
Ohio Northern took an early lead 10-4, and jumped further ahead 14-5, in the second set. The Quakers trimmed their deficit to 18-14 but were unable to pull themselves closer to the lead. The Polar Bears' offense and stout defense secured their 25-19 win during the second set.
Wilmington had a quick lead 9-6 over Ohio Northern to start the third set. The Polar Bears' offense remained persistent and overpowered the Quakers' defense. Tied 11-11, Ohio Northern scored five straight to lead 16-11. The Quakers were able to claw within three points, 19-16, but the Polar Bears outscored the hosts 6-1 to take the third set 25-17 and win the match 3-0.Â
