(WILMINGTON, Ohio) - The Quakers were shut out 1-0 by the visiting Polar Bears on Wednesday night.
In a monsoon-like environment, neither team seemed particularly comfortable in Williams Stadium. The slow start to the first half was interrupted in the 15th minute as Ohio Northern had a rebound goal to lead 1-0. Emma Storck made the first save, but the ball trickled away to an unmarked attacker who beat her near post. The Polar Bears' attack continued to test Storck, who was forced to make another save a few minutes later.
The Quakers were unable to make a push past Ohio Northern's backline. Delaney Benjamin and Maren Johannesen each had opportunities but could not put them on frame. The Polar Bears were able to close the half in control, leading 1-0. Wilmington had no shots on target in the first half.
Ohio Northern's defense and midfield continued to control the game in the second half. The Quakers were unable to muster any major threats. Gracie King had a shot from distance go off the crossbar, but it did not threaten the keeper. Alex Wilson had the best chance in the second half for the Quakers. After beating her defender, Wilson dribbled by and was one-on-one with the keeper but her shot was saved. The Polar Bears were able to maintain possession and secured the 1-0 shutout over the Quakers.
