(COLUMBUS, Ohio) - The Quakers fell in four close sets to Capital 3-1 on Wednesday night.

Wilmington trailed early in the first set to Capital. The Comets had a 12-8 lead, but the Quakers cut the lead to 12-11. Capital gained ground again until Wilmington went on a 5-0 run. Kills by Brinlee Preston, Emelia Mohler, and good defense put the Quakers ahead 19-18. The Comets retook the lead 23-21 until the Quakers marched back again. A service error sparked a 4-0 run for Wilmington with kills by Preston and Lydia Bridenbaugh who had the last kill to win the first set 25-23.

Both teams traded leads throughout the second set. Tied 11-11, Wilmington took a 15-12 lead, but the Comets pushed back to take an 18-17 lead. The Quakers tied the set 18-18 until Capital jumped out on a 5-0 run to lead 23-18. Wilmington came within two, down 24-22, but the Comets closed out the second set 25-22.

The third went back and forth just like the second set. Capital had a 13-10 lead until Wilmington tied it 13-13. The Quakers then took a 19-18 lead late with a kill by Magee Fain. The Comets inched ahead 21-19 but a kill by Emelia Mohler and an attack error knotted the two at 21-21. Losing by one, Wilmington tied it 24-24 and took a 25-24 lead but could not finish the set. Capital came back to win the third set 27-25.

Once again, the lead alternated between the two sides. Wilmington was able to grasp a 15-11 lead with back-to-back service aces by Emma Specht. The Comets stormed back on a 6-0 run to take a 17-15 lead over the Quakers. Tied 22-22, Capital was able to score three straight to win the fourth set 25-22 to take the match 3-1.
