(WILMINGTON, Ohio) - The Quakers offense overpowered Capital University in a 4-1 Wilmington victory over the visiting Comets.
The Quakers were in control of the game to start first half. Parker Burke was able to pester the Capital goalkeeper two straight shots in the first 10 minutes. On a long throw in during the 15th minute, Connor Neidemire found Aidan Barnishin who headed it home to put the Quakers up 1-0. The Comets were able to take two shots within three minutes as they eventually grew into the game.
Wilmington's first-half attack remained relentless. Shots by Jace Houck, Jordan Domoe, Brayden Spencer, and Kaden Young terrorized the Comets' defense. Eli Eyrich and Burke had more looks that were either saved or blocked. In the 39th minute Barnishin turned and played Akol Malow through the middle of the backline and Malow slotted it home to put Wilmington ahead 2-0. The Quakers' 2-0 lead held as the half concluded. Wilmington took 13 first half shots (six on goal) to Capital's five shots (three on goal) and Judah Hanks made three saves.
The Quakers' attack pushed hard to start the second half, once again taking multiple shots on target. The Comets appeared to be on their heels until a counterattack, and a dangerous ball in the box drew a penalty kick for Capital. Derrick Harris converted the penalty for the Comets to put the score 2-1 in the 64th minute. Less than 10 minutes later Parker Burke answered with a strike off a rebound to put Wilmington ahead by two 3-1.
