Quakers Fall in Four Hard-Fought Sets to Otterbein

(WESTERVILLE, Ohio) - The Quakers took the second set but fell in four close sets to Otterbein University Wednesday night on the road.

Wilmington opened the first set down 8-2 but clawed back to trail 14-9 after a 4-0 run. The Cardinals offense and defense were able to stifle the Quakers as Otterbein took a 19-9 lead. Otterbein went on to close out the set, winning 25-15.

The Quakers started off hot in the second set. Kills by Lydia Bridenbaugh, Sarah Brown and a service ace by Kyra Frasier helped Wilmington take an early 7-3 lead. The Cardinals fought back to take a 14-12 lead. Each team traded leads until the Quakers went on a key stretch. A kill by Sarah Brown started a Quakers 6-1 run to give Wilmington a 24-20 lead as they closed out the second set 25-21.

Otterbein and Wilmington went back and forth throughout the third set once again. The Quakers eventually took a 13-11 lead and jumped ahead 16-12 after multiple blocks by Magee Fain, Brinlee Preston, and Sarah Brown. The Cardinals offense overpowered the Quakers as Otterbein came back to win the set 25-21.

Once again, the lead alternated between the Cardinals and Quakers in the fourth set. Tied 10-10, Otterbein went on a 5-0 run to lead 15-10. The lead proved too much for Wilmington as the Quakers trailed 22-14 and lost the final set 25-17.
