(GAMBIER, Ohio) - The Quakers won the third set but lost the match to Kenyon 3-1.
The Owls of Kenyon College pushed ahead early in the first set with a 6-1 lead. Kenyon maintained their hot start, leading 20-8. The Owls finished the set strong, winning 25-13.
Trailing 7-2 in the second set, the Quakers mounted a four-point run to trail 7-6. Wilmington was then able to tie the set 9-9. The Owls and Quakers were in a deadlock, with each team trading the lead, tied 15-15. A kill by Sarah Brown and a service ace from Lydia Bridenbaugh gave the Quakers a 21-20 lead late in the set. The Owls went on a 5-0 run to take the second set, 25-20.
Wilmington took a 5-3 lead early with kills from Magee Fain, Sarah Brown, and an ace from Lizzie Erlsten. The Quakers were able to take a 12-8 lead until the Owls scored four straight, tying the set at 12 apiece. After a Quaker timeout, Wilmington outscored Kenyon 7-3, leading 19-15 before the Owls used their own timeout. The Quakers stormed out of the timeout to win the set 25-18.
Once again the teams traded leads throughout the fourth set. After a 6-6 tie, the Owls went on a 8-1 run leading 14-7 until Wilmington called a timeout. The Quakers cut Kenyon's lead to three, trailing 21-18 until the Owls finished the set 25-20 to win the match.
