Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Achirem and Heimlich Lead Quakers in Loss at John Carroll Saturday

(UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's basketball team played their first game of 2025 this afternoon at John Carroll University and lost 74-56. They trailed by just two at the half, 29-27, but the Blue Streaks pulled away during the second half to come away with the victory. Wilmington drops to 2-9 overall this season and 0-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).

The Quakers jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first half thanks to five points from Gavin Heimlich, a three pointer from Domenic Farley and a layup from Obed Achirem. Wilmington led by as many as eight points at 27-19 with 4:58 remaining in the first half, fending off any Blue Streaks runs to hold onto their lead. However, John Carroll answered with a 10-0 run to end the first half with a 29-27 advantage.

Wilmington battled back in the second half and both teams were locked at 36-36 with 16:29 remaining in the game. Elijah Cathey had four of the Quakers first nine points in the half. Both teams held steady and the score stayed tied at 42-42. This was the last time the Quakers would be this close, as John Carroll used a 19-7 flurry to go ahead by 12 points at 61-49 and never look back in a 74-56 triumph.
