Quakers Drop Double Overtime Heartbreaker at Muskingum

(NEW CONCORD, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's basketball team lost a heartbreaking double overtime game with the Muskingum University Fighting Muskies Wednesday night on the road, 75-72.

This is the Quakers first overtime game of the season and their first since beating Baldwin Wallace University in overtime last season, 73-71 on Feb. 10, 2024. Wilmington drops to 4-14 overall this season and 2-9 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).

The Muskies got out to an 8-0 lead early in the first half, before Obed Achirem got the Quakers on the board with 16:04 remaining in the first half. Muskingum held as large as an 11-point lead at 19-8 with 12:25 to play in the half before the Quakers used a 13-2 run to tie the game at 21-21. This rally was led by five Elijah Cathey points. The Muskies led at the half, 31-30.

Muskingum held a 48-42 lead with 10:47 to play in regulation before Wilmington immediately answered with a 7-0 flurry for a 49-48 advantage. Cathey led the charge with three of their seven points. The two teams traded points throughout the remainder of the half, and a pair of Domenic Farley free throws and a missed tip in by Muskingum sent the game to overtime at 60-60.

The Quakers went up 64-60 in the first overtime, but the Muskies fought back and sent it to a second overtime at 64-64. A pair of missed Duane Davis missed free throws gave the Quakers life, but a Farley three was no good at the end of the period.

Both teams were locked at 69-69 with 3:06 remaining in the second overtime, before a 4-0 Muskies run gave them a 73-69 lead with 54 seconds to play. A Rashid Chisholm three pointer gave the Quakers a chance, but it wasn't to be as a late three was no good and the Quakers fell 75-72.
