(WILMINGTON, Ohio) -Â In a game that started fast for the host Wilmington College Quakers, eventually the Marietta College experience caught up with Wilmington as they fell to the Pioneers 70-59 at home on Saturday afternoon.
Alaiya Meaux led all Quaker scorers with a career-high 15 points, with
Stephanie Altstaetter scoring 11 and
Ky Walker and
Sierra McCoin scoring 10 a piece.
Meaux led all Quakers with rebounds at five, and had a team and career-high five assists plus two blocks and two steals. Altstaetter also garnered two blocks and
Cassidy Lovett had three steals, both to lead the team.
The Quakers did start fast, building a 20-9 opening run over the first seven minutes. But Marietta chipped away at the lead, taking over for good in the last two minutes of the third quarter, going on a 10-0 run to close the quarter and build a 10-point lead.
The Quakers were forced to play younger against a more experienced Marietta team with both the senior Walker and graduate student Lovett - the only active players with more than two years of college basketball experience - getting into foul trouble. Walker got her third midway through the second quarter; Lovett got her third at the end of the second quarter.
Both got their fourths in the third quarter, and Walker eventually fouled out midway through the fourth, with the score 59-52. Lovett got her fifth with a bit over two minutes to go in the game, with the score at 64-57.
