(TIFFIN, Ohio) – The Wilmington College women's basketball team took on the Heidelberg University Student Princes Saturday afternoon on the road. The Quakers held a 51-49 lead after a high scoring third quarter but lost it down the stretch as the Student Princes came away with a 67-57 victory. The Quakers return home Wednesday night to play the Otterbein University Cardinals.
Both teams were knotted up at 10-10 in the first quarter before Heidelberg ended the period on an 8-3 run for an 18-13 lead heading into the second quarter of action. The Student Princes held a lead as large as nine points in the second quarter before the Quakers began to push back. An 8-0 run made it a 29-28 deficit with 1:53 to play in the half.
Sierra McCoin led the Quakers with three points during this rally. Heidelberg held a 31-29 lead at the half.
Wilmington and Heidelberg were neck and neck during the third quarter. Neither team gained a solid advantage during the period and things were tied at 49-49 with 17 second remaining. A pair of free throws gave the Quakers a 51-49 lead heading into the final quarter of play. The Student Princes halted the Quakers momentum in the final quarter, outscoring them 18-6 and winning the game 67-57.
