(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's basketball team lost to the Capital University Comets Wednesday night in Hermann Court on a last second free throw.
With the game tied at 67-67, Dom Moegerle of Capital drove the lane and was fouled. A raucous Quakers crowd aided Wilmington as Moegerle missed the first free throw. However, Moegerle banked in the second free throw and a last second heave from the Quakers was no good in a 68-67 loss. The Quakers are now 2-12 overall this season and 0-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).
Wilmington held a steady lead during the start of the first half, leading by as many as eight points over the first 10 minutes of action.
Obed Achirem had eight points during this stretch of play. The Quakers never led by less than three points throughout the remainder of the first half and led 38-33 at halftime.
Out of the break, Capital used a 7-2 flurry to tie the game at 40-40 with 17:30 to play in the game. The game continued to be close and was still tied at 51-51 with 12:40 remaining. Wilmington followed this up with a 10-2 rally that was fueled by several Quakers and concluded on a huge three pointer from
Bryce Bird. The lead grew to nine points at 64-55 with 6:55 left in the game.
Capital went on a 12-0 run to take a 67-64 lead with just over a minute remaining. Achirem hit a clutch three pointer off an assist from
Domenic Farley to tie the game with 46 seconds to play. The foul and ensuing free throw followed for Capital as they won the game 68-67.

The Quakers are back on the road Saturday afternoon in Tiffin, Ohio against the Heidelberg University Student Princes at 3:00 P.M. Wilmington will be looking for their first win over Heidelberg since the 2020-21 season.
