Women's Basketball Falters Late Against Baldwin Wallace Saturday

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College women's basketball team played one of the best teams in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Saturday afternoon, the Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets. They hung tough inside Hermann Court, but would ultimately fall 68-52. The game was right there for the Quakers, until the fourth quarter saw Baldwin Wallace pull away for the victory. Wilmington is now 4-9 overall this season and 1-5 in the OAC.

The Quakers fell behind 7-2 early in the first quarter before storming back with an 11-3 run to grab a 13-10 lead with 2:46 left in the quarter. ZahKyria Walker led the Quakers during this flurry with five points while Stephanie Altstaetter added four. Wilmington led 16-14 after the first 10 minutes of action.

Neither team gained much of an advantage in the second quarter, with Wilmington leading by as many as four, but Baldwin Wallace took the lead heading into halftime, 30-29. Both teams were tied at 37-37 with 3:30 remaining in the third, but an 8-2 Yellow Jackets rally put them ahead 45-39 heading into the final 10 minutes of the game. Baldwin Wallace outscored Wilmington 23-13 in the last quarter and won the game 68-52.

Notables
  • ZahKyria Walker scored a game-high 21 points, the most for her since scoring 23 in their final game of the season last year at Heidelberg University on Feb. 17, 2024. She has scored 13 or more points in six games this season.
  • Natalie Rupp grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Quakers while Cassidy Lovett and Alaiya Meaux tied for the game-high with two assists each.
  • Walker tied for the game-high with two steals.
  • Wilmington forced 24 turnovers, which is their fifth game this season forcing 21 or more turnovers.

What's Up Next
The Quakers hit the road to Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday night to battle the Capital University Comets in the Capital Center Performance Arena at 7:00 P.M. They split with Capital last season, including a 54-36 win at home on Jan. 24, 2024.
