Men's Basketball Stung Late By the Yellow Jackets

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's basketball team went down to the wire Saturday afternoon in Hermann Court with the Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets. The Quakers held a 58-55 lead with 3:52 to play but wouldn't score another point as the Yellow Jackets ended the game on a 6-0 run to win 61-58. Wilmington is now 2-11 overall this season and 0-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).

Both teams clawed their way to a 12-12 tie with 13:51 to play in the first half. A small 13-8 run for the Quakers gave them a 25-20 lead with 8:34 remaining in the half. Bryce Bird scored four points to fuel the rally for Wilmington. The Yellow Jackets answered with a 10-0 run for a 30-25 lead, but the Quakers rallied back with five points to tie the game back up at 30-30. Baldwin Wallace held a 34-33 advantage heading into the break.

Wilmington used a 9-0 run out of the locker room that included three big dunks to earn a 42-34 lead with 15:58 to play in the game. The Quakers continued to hold a steady lead until Baldwin Wallace came back to tie the game at 53-53 with just 5:58 left. With the Quakers leading 58-55, Wilmington faltered down the stretch and fell behind 61-58. A last second three pointer was no good from Elijah Cathey as they dropped the game.
