(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College football team lost their homecoming contest Saturday afternoon to the visiting Muskingum University Fighting Muskies, 42-13. The Quakers got on the scoreboard first thanks to a 62-yard touchdown run by freshman
Kai Smith. The offense stalled out after that as Wilmington dropped to 0-3 overall this season and 0-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).
As mentioned,
Kai Smith got Wilmington on the board less than two minutes into the contest with a huge touchdown run for the second touchdown of his collegiate career. The Muskies answered right back with a touchdown of their own to knot the score at 7-7 in the first quarter. Neither team scored for the remainder of the first, as both quarterbacks threw an interception during the quarter.
Wilmington went back up 10-7 in the second quarter after a drive that began at the Muskingum 40 fizzled out at the Muskies five-yard line and turned into a 22-yard
Connor Bucksath field goal. The Muskies scored on their next two possessions and took a 21-10 advantage into the locker room.
The Quakers had good field position once again in the third quarter, starting a drive at the Muskies 33-yard line. They pushed the ball down to their six-yard line but settled for a 23-yard Bucksath field goal to make it a 21-13 deficit.
Muskingum scored again and went ahead 28-13 heading into the final quarter. Muskingum scored two more times in the fourth quarter to win the game 42-13.
