Oeder Has Career-High Five Aces in Four Set Win over Oberlin

(OBERLIN, Ohio) - The Quakers earned their third win of the season Friday night against the Oberlin College Yeowomen, 3-1 and are now 3-9 overall this season.

Oberlin kept the Quakers at arm's length through the first set en route to a 25-20 win, however the changeover changed the Quakers' mentality. Wilmington opened set two, scoring three of the first five points, and then the next three points. After taking the service at 8-5, Logan McQuillin served four consecutive points to build a 12-5 lead. The Yeowomen closed the gap to 16-15, before Corissa Oeder had the first of two service aces in this rotation, at 18-15 and guided the Quakers to 23-15, featuring kills by Sarah Brown, Brinlee Preston and Paige Shouse.

The third set opened with an Oberlin ace, but both teams alternated the first four points. The match was kept close until McQuillin's service rotation. McQuillin took the service with both teams tied at 7, and got the Quakers to a 10-8 lead following two aces and an Oeder kill. The set remained a back-and-forth affair until Oeder took the serve at 16-14. Following two Oberlin attack errors and a service ace, the match was 19-14, then Trinity VanDusen brought the match to set point at 24-16 before a Zeynep Kaya kill, but the Quakers took the set with a Shouse kill.

The Quakers, despite building an 8-5 lead, saw the fourth set tied midway through the match and even falling behind late, 20-18. Emma Specht got the service rotation and scored two points, compliments of an Andie Dolven kill and an Oberlin error to get them to a 21-20 lead. The end of the match played even all the way through an attack error on Oberlin set point to tie it at 25-25, then Oeder got the service, and closed out the match with an attack error and then a Preston kill.
