(BLUFFTON, Ohio) - The Quakers had an early start at Bluffton's Sommer Spiketacular on Saturday, losing their early match to The University of Olivet 3-0, but getting their second win of the season against Hilbert College, 3-1.
Match One – Olivet defeats Wilmington, 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-19).
Paige Shouse led Wilmington with six kills against Olivet, whileÂ
Sarah Brown netted five.
Corissa Oeder and
Brinlee Preston each had two aces.
Andie Dolven had 20 more assists to further expand her career total.
Corissa Oeder had 14 digs, and Dolven earned 11.
Match Two – Wilmington defeats Hilbert, 3-1 (25-8, 25-16, 22-25, 25-18).
Against Hilbert, the Quakers won the first two sets 25-8 and 25-16. The Hawks took the third set 25-22, but the Quakers closed out Hilbert with a 25-18 victory in the fourth set.
Dolven opened the match with a pair of aces, allowing the Quakers to jet to a 4-0 lead, before handing the serve to Hilbert. It was a
Corissa Oeder service rally that would expand the lead, from 13-6, before an Emily Garnett kill would turn the service rotation back to Hilbert at 20-7.
The second set was comparatively quiet to the first set, with Wilmington getting two to three points before turning it over to Hilbert for one or two points. The third set saw the Quakers stumble early behind a
Taylor Smith service rally, setting Hilbert up at 10-2, but the Quakers fought back with Dolven getting the service at 23-20, before turning it over at 24-22. The fourth set saw Dolven getting it down 1-0, to leading 3-1 and after three rotations, with VanDusen and Preston services getting the Quakers to a 10-4 lead. The Quakers kept their distance onto a 25-18 win and a 3-1 match victory for their second win of the year.
Josie Crabtree had 17 kills, with Shouse earning 14.
Andie Dolven picked up four aces and Crabtree had three of her own. Dolven got another program Top-10 in assists with 48. Oeder had 28 digs,
Logan McQuillin had 15 digs and
Trinity VanDusen tallied 14 digs against the Hawks.
