Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Altstaetter Leads Four Quakers to Double Figures in 4-point Loss at Marietta 81-77

(MARIETTA, Ohio) Stephanie Altstaetter leads the Quakers with 18 points, along with 14 points by ZahKyria Walker and 10 each by Sierra McCoin and Olivia Trusty in a 81-77 loss to the Marietta Pioneers in Marietta on Saturday.

Walker led the team with five assists and six rebounds. Sydney Capen also had six rebounds and three blocks for the Quakers.

The Quakers trailed by 12 with 3 minutes to go in the game, and went on an 11-3 run to close the game, but time just ran out to close the gap any further. Walker scored 5 of her 14 in that final surge, along with Altstaetter scoring 4 of her 18.

The Quakers got their first lead just before going into halftime, and looked like they would until a Kelsey Harlan basket with one second remaining in the first half would put the Pioneers up by 1 going into halftime at 42-41.

But the Quakers would get that lead back to start the second half, compliments of a Gabby Russell three-pointer, to give the Quakers the 44-42 lead . Amelia Uhrig would tie the game back up, before McCoin hits two free throws and a Natalie Rupp layup would give the Quakers a 48-44 lead.

Sophie Nelson would draw the game back to 1, with a 3 pointer, before Altstaetter gets the offensive board and putback, off a Cassidy Lovett miss, then Altstaetter gets the block, passes out to McCoin, who feeds it back to Altstaetter to give her a little 5-0 run in 20 seconds.

But that five-point lead in the third would be the biggest that the Quakers would see. The Pioneers would take the lead back on an Adi Hill 3-pointer with less than a minute remaining in the third, and Marietta would lead the remainder of the way.

The Quakers come home next Saturday as they welcome the Mount Union Purple Raiders for a double header. Women start at 1.
