Lovett Tallies 200th Steal as Quakers Pressure #11 Christopher Newport in 57-44 Loss

(NEWPORT NEWS, Va.) - Cassidy Lovett tallied her 200th career steal in a Quaker 57-44 loss to 11th-ranked Christopher Newport University Captains on Wednesday in Newport News, Va.

Olivia Trusty scores nine points for the Quakers, hitting a career-high three three-pointers, and pulled down nine rebounds, also a career-high.

Gabby Russell also scored nine points, Sierra McCoin scored eight points. Alaiya Meaux and Sydney Capen gathered six rebounds each. Meaux tallied four assists and Stephanie Altstaetter tallied three assists.

The Quakers forced 17 turnovers with Meaux, Lovett, Trusty and ZahKyria Walker getting three steals each.

Christopher Newport didn't lead by double figures until the last eight minutes of the game. For the first 32 minutes, the Quakers played the Captains close, even sprinting out to a 4-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game and holding the Captains without a field goal through nearly the first six minutes.

The Quakers trailed 23-21 at half, symbolizing how close the game actually was. Wilmington was within one possession seven times throughout the game.

Wilmington out-shot Christopher Newport from the field 32.1% to 27.7% and 31.8% to 18.8% from beyond the arc. Christopher Newport only made one more field goal (17) than Wilmington (16). The Quakers made one more three (7) than the Captains (6).

The difference in the game for Christopher Newport came at the free throw line. The Captains were 15-17 at the line, versus the Quakers' 3-4. The Quakers committed more fouls than the Captains, 19-12.

Wilmington will take on Asbury University tomorrow afternoon in the Captains Clash Consolation Game in Newport News, Va. at 1:00 p.m.
