(CINCINNATI, Ohio) - The Wilmington College men's basketball team opened the 2024 season with a slow start on the road against the Mount Saint Joseph Lions, losing 98-62. The Quakers begin their season 0-1 while the Lions go 1-0.Â
The Quakers took the lead at the beginning of the game with a 3-pointer by Bryce Bird. The MSJ Lions answered back though, taking off to claim a 34-22 lead over the Quakers with six minutes left in the first half. The Lions continued to get points as Luke Collinsworth brought the lead to 41-26 with a 3-pointer with just under three minutes remaining in the half. Wilmington saw their deficit sit at 51-31 going into halftime.Â
The Quakers went into the second half trying to make a comeback. The Lions started the half with Collinsworth making both free throws to make the score 52-33. Wilmington missed a couple shots while the Lions brought the lead to 58-38 with 14:44 left in the game. Ben Golan secured a rebound for a tip in layup to push the deficit to 71-42 halfway through the second half. The Quakers kept fighting to try and bring them back into the game. With one free throw by Dale Bush the Lions pushed the lead to 95-62 with 48 seconds left. The game ended at 98-62 with the Lions earning their first win of the season.Â

- Rashid Chisholm led the team with 18 points and 12 rebounds in the game. This was his second double-double as a Quaker.Â
- The Quakers showed off their depth, as their bench ended with 25 points in the game.Â
What's Up NextÂ
Wilmington will play at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday night at Fred Raizk Arena for their home opener. They matchup with Earlham College in the Quaker Bowl.
Last season's Quaker Bowl saw Wilmington win a 69-68 overtime thriller on a game winning shot by Domenic Farley with 35 seconds left before he blocked the last second Earlham shot.Â
