Football Falls to Marietta on the Road Saturday Afternoon

(MARIETTA, Ohio) – The Wilmington College football team was defeated on the road Saturday afternoon by the undefeated Marietta College Pioneers, 52-6. The Quakers are now 1-7 overall this season and 1-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).

The Pioneers went ahead less than four minutes into the game, but the Quakers responded with a 10-play drive that ended with a 28-yard Connor Bucksath field goal to make the score 7-3.

The Quakers final scoring drive started at their own 30-yard line before a 38-yard pass to Lathan Jones and a roughing the passer penalty on Marietta pushed the Quakers to the Pioneers 17-yard line. The Quakers had a first and goal at the Marietta five-yard line, but the drive fizzled out and resulted in a 27-yard Bucksath field goal.

Wilmington had another chance to score at the beginning of the fourth quarter at the Marietta 10, but a costly penalty pushed Wilmington back and they couldn't recover before Bucksath missed a 35-yard field goal attempt off the left upright. The Quakers final drive saw them get the ball to the Pioneers 13-yard line before fumbling and not being able to recover it.
