Box Score

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's volleyball team concluded its 2022 season on a high note with a 25-18, 23-25, 25-18, 25-17 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) victory over Heidelberg University on Saturday afternoon. The victory was the Fightin' Quakers' first over the Student Princes in program history.

The Quakers jumped on top early in set one as an Andie Dolven service run and a Sofia Thomas kill put the visitors up 5-1. The Student Princes put together consecutive kills to get back within a point on several occasions, but the hosts wouldn't tie the set again. Another Thomas kill sent Trinity VanDusen to the service line at 14-12, a four straight Heidelberg attack errors put the set out of reach.

In set two, Wilmington had as many kills as errors (12), but nearly won the set anyway. The Quakers found themselves tied 18-18 after a ball handling error, but a Student Prince kill and attack errors from Thomas and Sarah Brown gave the hosts a three-point advantage. The visitors would get back to within a single point, but Ashley Foster ended the set and tied the match 1-1.

The Quaker offense turned in perhaps one of its best offensive sets of the season in set three. Wilmington hit a .303 clip with 14 kills and just four errors to coast to a 2-1 match lead. In set four, Heidelberg was held to a -.118 attack percentage with seven kills and 11 errors while Wilmington had 11 kills and six errors.

Wilmington had a trio of hitters – Thomas, Brown and Sydney Geibel – had double-digit kill performances. Dolven, who dished out 35 assists, also got involved offensively with six kills while libero Blake O'Brien added 26 digs. Bailey Pohlman had six block assists while Brown had five.

Foster led Heidelberg, which had 39 kills and 30 attack errors, with 10 kills while Julianna Pena and Kelsey Custenborder combined for 29 assists.

The Quakers finish their 2022 season with a 9-19 overall record and a 2-7 mark in OAC competition. Those marks are tied for the best season (2018) for the program in the last decade.
