(CRAWFORDSVILLE, In.) - The Wilmington College wrestling team competed in the Wabash College Open in Crawfordsville, Indiana in their first tournament since November. Asher LeBeau and Thane McCoy place for the Quakers in the Wabash College Open on Saturday.
Wrestling at 125-pounds, Andre Lewis fell via fall in his first match 7-0. The sophomore followed up by winning his second match 10-0 with a major decision. He secured a takedown in all three periods, with an escape in the second to advance. Lewis lost by tech. fall in his final match.
Gavyn Grim wrestled in the 133-pound weight class for the Quakers but went winless in his two matches. Grim fell via tech. fall 17-2 in his first match and a fall 3-0 in the second match.
The Quakers had a pair of wrestlers in the 149 pound bracket, with Junior Creager and Asher LeBeau. Creager fell by a 7-2 decision against CJ Briner in his first match. Creager responded well and won 3-0 with a fall against Aaron Pennington in 0:51 in his second match. He lost his final match by major decision 19-8 to Laban Green.
Asher LeBeau opened his day with back-to-back wins as he finished in fifth place. He had a tech. fall win against Aaron Pennington of Trine University. LeBeau had a takedown and nearfall in the first period, before performing a reversal and two nearfalls to take the match 17-0.
In LeBeau's second match, he defeated Carson Fettig from Wabash College by decision 14-12. The sophomore was trailing 7-4 after the first period before securing a takedown and nearfall in the second period to take a 10-8 advantage. LeBeau earned an escape and takedown in the third period to win on decision.
The sophomore lost his third match to Aidan Torres of Indiana University by tech. fall 20-5. LeBeau lost his next match to Wabash College's Laban Green by decision 10-7. He led after the first period 4-1 via a takedown and penalty but could not regain control in the final two periods. LeBeau closed out his day by winning 14-3 with a major decision over CJ Briner from Trine University.
Thane McCoy kicked off his day with back-to-back major decision wins in the 157 pound bracket. McCoy took down Wabash College's Grant Brewer 14-2 in his first match, earning a takedown in each period and the riding time point. The sophomore followed up with a 17-8 win over Bryce Doss from the University of Indianapolis with a nearfall, and three takedowns in the second and third period. McCoy was forced to medically forfeit his final three matches. McCoy placed sixth in his weight class.
At 174 pounds, Hunter Randall suffered a loss in his first match by takedown. Randall responded strongly, winning 20-9 with a major decision in his second match against Hunter Ostrander from Trine University. He dominated the first period with a takedown and three nearfalls before staying in control to take the match. Randall fell in his third match on a takedown to end his day.
