Baseball Ends Their Home Slate With a Walk Off Win vs. Mount St. Joseph

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College baseball team concluded their home schedule Wednesday afternoon at Tewksbury-Delaney Field against the Mount St. Joseph University Lions. They split the series, losing game one 7-3 before winning on a walk off single in game two, 4-3 in extra innings. The Quakers sit at 11-24 heading into their final games of the season Saturday afternoon on the road.

Game One – Mount St. Joseph defeats Wilmington, 7-3 (7 Innings)
Wilmington worked their way out of a two-out bases loaded jam in the top of the first inning as JP Donelan forced a line out. The Quakers loaded the bases themselves with two outs in the bottom of the first, but a strikeout ended the frame.

The Quakers worked around a runner on third in the top of the third inning to keep the game tied at 0-0. The Lions scored four runs in the top of the fourth for a 4-0 advantage. A three-run homerun extended their lead to 7-0 in the sixth.

Wilmington made it interesting in the seventh with three runs. A trio of walks loaded the bases with nobody out. Eli Hollingsworth brought in the first run on a sacrifice fly and a two-out Kyle Jennings single through the left side of the infield brought in their final runs of the game.

After JP Donelan singled to start the inning in the bottom of the fifth, a sacrifice bunt turned into a throwing error for the Lions and allowed Donelan to come all the way around to score and tie the game at 2-2.

A sacrifice fly gave Mount St. Joseph a 3-2 lead in the seventh and forced the Quakers into a must score situation in the bottom of the frame. A pair of flyouts sent the game into extra innings.

A scoreless frame for the Lions gave Wilmington a chance to win the game. A Dominic Depa double started the inning, and he was pinch run for with Eli Hollingsworth.
