(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College baseball team lost both their Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) games this afternoon on Senior Day against the John Carroll University Blue Streaks, 11-7 in 10 innings and 3-1 at Tewksbury-Delaney Field.
Before the game, the Quakers honored their four seniors in
Dominic Depa,
Brayden Kisling,
Dylan Montgomery, and
Riley Sims.
Game One – John Carroll defeats Wilmington, 11-7 (10 Innings)
The Blue Streaks took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Wilmington responded with one run in the bottom of the first. After an error to start the frame,
Braden Chambers stole second and later scored on a
James Crowe single through the left side of the infield for a 3-1 deficit.
The Quakers took a 5-3 lead with four runs in the bottom of the second. Wilmington had two outs over the first three batters but rallied. A pair of walks and a single loaded the bases before
Dominic Depa had an RBI hit by pitch before a balk scored the tying run. Crowe delivered the go ahead two-RBI single into right field for the lead.
Neither team scored again until the Blue Streaks scored four runs in the top of the sixth frame for a 7-5 lead. The Quakers were down to their final out in the bottom of the ninth with Depa up to the plate. He roped a single through the left side of the infield to score
Ethan Bunce and
Eli Hollingsworth to tie the game at 7-7. Bunce was hit by a pitch and Hollingsworth singled earlier in the frame.
Unfortunately for the Quakers, John Carroll plated four runs in the top of the 10th and went on to win 11-7.
Game One Notables
- James Crowe led Wilmington with two hits.
- Crowe and Dominic Depa both drove in three runs for the Quakers.
- Depa also walked twice.
- Braden Chambers and Caden Baker both had a stolen base.
- Depa, Dylan Montgomery, and Ethan Bunce were all hit by a pitch.
- Quakers pitching had seven strikeouts.
- Luke Chappie struck out four batters over 5.1 innings on the mound, allowing five runs on five hits.
- Brad Miller tossed 3.1 scoreless innings of relief, only allowing one hit, and striking out three Blue Streaks.
Game Two – John Carroll defeats Wilmington, 3-1
The Blue Streaks got out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, as a pair of errors doomed Wilmington in the frame. The Quakers had their first chance to score in the bottom of the second after a single and steal, but the run wouldn't come home.
Wilmington had runners at second and third with one out in the bottom of the fifth, but a ground out and pop out ended the inning with no runs. The Quakers loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth but couldn't scratch across a run.
They had a runner on third in the seventh, but he wouldn't come home. Their first run of the game came on a
Max Gildea solo homerun down the left field line with one out in the eighth to cut the lead to 2-1. After a single later in the inning, the Quakers were caught stealing second base, which halted their momentum, and they wouldn't score another run.
John Carroll grabbed a run in the ninth and an error gave Wilmington hope in the bottom of the frame, but they dropped the contest.
Game Two Notables
- Kyle Jennings and JP Donelan led Wilmington with a pair of hits in the game each.
- Max Gildea had the lone RBI and run scored with his second homerun of the season.
- Ethan Bunce walked twice in the game.
- JP Donelan stole two bases and now has five this season.
- Trent Mendenhall pitched eight great innings of relief for the Quakers, striking out four Blue Streaks, while only allowing one run on seven hits.

Wilmington travels to Franklin, Indiana Tuesday afternoon for a 4:00 P.M. contest with the Franklin College Grizzlies.
The Quakers split their doubleheader last week in Wilmington with Franklin, losing game one 9-8 before winning game two. 10-0.
