(WILMINGTON, Ohio) The host Wilmington Quakers would put up a fight in game one against the Muskingum Muskies forcing them to extra innings before the Muskies would take it 11-7.
However, in game two of the doubleheader, the Muskies jumped out to an early 4-1 lead after two and never looked back, beating the Quakers 9-2
GAME ONE
In a thrilling first game, the Quakers trailed Muskingum 6-2, entering their final at-bats in the bottom of the seventh.
The Quakers' first two runs came on
Samantha Schwab tapping home on a wild pitch and
Rachel Berry scoring on a deep
Jocelyn Franz groundout in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively.
Wilmington's damage was all done with one out.
Samantha Schwab hit a double to the right field gap to drive in Franz from second, scoring the first run of a four-run seventh.
Next batter up,
Haley Johnson got an infield single on a weird hop that stifled 2b, which scored
Judaea Wilson.
With Schwab on third and Johnson on First,
Cici Harding entered for Johnson and stole second.
Then,
Claire Scully walked to load the bases, and the Muskies pulled the starter Tareyn Born.
Alasandra Spears drove in one on a sacrifice fly that scored Schwab, and
Cici Harding scored on a throwing error to tie the game.
But the Muskingum barrage came out in the top of the eighth.
Muskingum hit three doubles off the bats of Susie Blocher, Olivia Rapol, and Mattie Bailey en route to a five-run eighth inning. Blocher's double set up second and third with no outs, while Rapol and Bailey drove home two runs.
The Quakers trimmed the lead with a run, compliments of a Wilson sacrifice fly, scoring Cornett.
Makenzie O'Neil went 3.1, giving up six runs off five hits and striking out three.
Gracey Dearmon would get tagged with the loss, pitching 4.2 innings and giving up five runs off eight hits and a walk – all five runs in the eighth inning. Dearmon would strike out 2.
Cornett would go 2-5 with a double. Wilson would go 2-4. Berry would go 2-4 with a triple.
GAME TWO
The Muskies started hitting starter
Belle Baughman for one run in the top of the first when Timko drove a single to center, scoring Taylor.
However, fielding errors by Muskingum allowed
Jocelyn Franz to score at the bottom of the first.
Muskingum would jump out to a 4-1 lead after two. They would add three more runs in the fifth before another Muskie error scores Cornett in the sixth.
Baughman went 4.1, giving up seven runs off eight hits and three walks.
Laney Starbuck went 2.2, giving up two runs off four hits.
Cornett went 3-4, and Spears went 2-3 for the Quakers.

Wilmington travels to Heidelberg to play a doubleheader against the Student Princes on Saturday, April 5, with the first pitch at 1 p.m.
