Meaux's Career Day Gives Quakers a Chance; Fall to John Carroll 72-70

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) - Alaiya Meaux gave the performance of her short career Saturday afternoon against John Carroll University, playing all 40 minutes en route to a 26-point effort in a 72-70 loss to the John Carroll Blue Streaks at home.

Meaux kept the Quakers in the game, going 6-for-18 from the field, and 14-for-18 from the charity stripe, and leading all players in scoring.

This game was nothing like the game at John Carroll on January 4th when the Blue Streaks beat the Quakers 77-44 on a blizzard-like day.

Today, while it being wet and rainy outside, the Quakers kept the temperature hot on the Blue Streaks all day.

Entering the fourth quarter, John Carroll enjoyed their largest lead of the day, 11 points, leading the Quakers 59-48. The Quakers proceeded to go on a 22-9 run through the first 8:07 of the final period. Meaux scored 11 in that stretch, going 7-for-9 from the line. Sierra McCoin hit her second three in this stretch, and was the one to put the Quakers up for the first time since the 6:30 mark in the first quarter.

During this final stretch, the Quakers held John Carroll to 3-8 from the field and forced five turnovers, while going 6-13 from the field, and playing turnover free basketball. The only Quaker turnover of the fourth period, ended up sending John Carroll's Graci Semptimphelter to the line with the game tied. The Quakers did get the final chances, by way of McCoin, Gabby Russell and Meaux, but all shots didn't fall through the net.

Stephanie Altstaetter fell one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 16 and grabbing nine rebounds. Gabby Russell tallied six assists, while four players tallied three assists. Cassidy Lovett tallied eight rebounds and three steals. Ky Walker and Meaux each tallied six rebounds.

Semptimphelter scored 21 points to lead the Blue Streaks. Kaylie McKenney scored 13.
