McCoy Advances to Day 2 of NCAA Regionals

(AVERETT, Va.) - Thane McCoy is the lone Quakers wrestler advancing to day two of the NCAA DIII Region IV Championships in Averett, Virginia on Friday, and finishes as one of five Quakers earning wins during the tournament.

McCoy won his first match by a 17-4 major decision over Cannon Long from Shenandoah University. McCoy's second match was a tight 10-9 loss to Colin Bridges from Washington & Lee University.

Bridges took down McCoy twice in the first period, with McCoy escaping once, for a score of 6-1. McCoy scored a reversal and a takedown, but Bridges escaped twice to get to a score of 8-6.

McCoy got a takedown with less than 30 seconds to tie the match at nine but a last second escape by Bridges would send McCoy to the consolation bracket.

In the second consolation round, McCoy scored the easy 14-3 major decision win over Seth Evans from Waynesburg University.

Gavyn Grim picked up his first win of the season in the preliminaries, pinning Christopher Watson from Greensboro College and got a 20-19 decision win over Sean Cain from St. Vincent College.
