(ANDERSON, Ind.) – The Wilmington College football team won their second game in a row Saturday afternoon at Anderson University (Ind.), 34-23, in a game that was played at Lapel High School. The Quakers trailed 17-13 heading into the final quarter but outscored the Ravens 21-6 over the final 15 minutes of action for the victory.
Neither team got anything going during their first drives, but after punting the ball back to Anderson, the Ravens fumbled on the first play of their next drive. This gave Wilmington the ball in great field position at the Anderson 19-yard line. After six plays, the Quakers were forced to settle for a 28-yard
Camden Marx field goal and a 3-0 lead. The Quakers also kicked a 38-yard field goal on their next drive for a 6-0 advantage that would hold at the end of the first quarter.
After the Quakers turned it over on downs, Anderson had the ball at Wilmington's 43-yard line. However, on the third play of their drive, they fumbled again, and
Michael Williams Jr. recovered it and 68 yards later it was 13-0 Quakers. This was the second game in a row that Wilmington recorded a scoop and score.
Anderson came back though, kicking a field goal and scoring a touchdown to make it a 13-10 game at the half. The Quakers couldn't get anything going in the third quarter and the Ravens scored to take a 17-13 lead into the final quarter.
The final play of the third quarter was an
Isaac Ross pass to
Amare Middleton for 37 yards to get to the Anderson 38-yard line. Ross immediately found Middleton again on the next play for 35 yards down to the three-yard line and the Quakers would eventually find the endzone for a 20-17 lead.
The Ravens retook the lead with 9:20 to play after a touchdown made it 23-20, but they missed the extra point. Wilmington stepped up on defense after they threw an interception to give Anderson the ball deep in their own territory with 8:08 to play. Freshman
Jordan Fitzpatrick came up with the play of the day, intercepting the ball at the Ravens 15-yard line and taking it to the house for a 27-23 Quakers lead.
Anderson turned it over on downs on their next drive to give Wilmington the ball in Ravens territory. It would be just a three-play drive as Ross found
De'Anta Sanon for a 42-yard touchdown and a 34-23 Quakers win.
