(BEREA, Ohio) – The Wilmington College men's swim team started their 2025-26 season with an impressive 116-73 win over Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) foe Baldwin Wallace University on the road.
The Quakers strongest performers on the day were senior
Sondre Haugen and junior
Jo Pedersen.
Haugen won two individual events in the 200 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Butterfly, while also competing in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay. He blew the competition out of the water in the 200 Free with a time of 1:43.43 that set the pool record and won by over 14 seconds. The 100 Yard Butterfly saw him win by over six seconds in 52.26. Andrew Patterson, senior
John Good, and Pedersen to win the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay by nearly 16 seconds at 1:32.64. His anchor leg of 21.80 seconds was the fastest of anyone in the relay.
Pedersen's two individual wins were the 200 Yard IM and 100 Yard Breaststroke. He won the 200 IM in 2:04.44, which was almost a four second victory, before he took the 100 Breast in 1:01.30.
John Good swam his lone individual event, the 100 Yard Backstroke, in 53.67 seconds to win by just under four seconds and set a pool record. He was a part of the winning 200 Free Relay team and the winning 200 Yard Medley Relay team. This medley relay squad included freshman
Bo Bindewald, sophomore
Parker Basener, and junior
Nathan Duerk, which finished in a time of 1:45.07. Good's anchor leg of 22.20 seconds in the freestyle was the best in the race.
A trio of freshmen in
Carson Duerk,
Bo Bindewald, and
Andrew Patterson had solid collegiate debuts. Carson was second in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 11:53.47 and second in the 500 Yard Freestyle at 5:43.60. He teamed with seniors
Jack Cathey and
Jake Stein, along with junior
Ryan Washburn to finish second in the 200 Free Relay at 1:48.34. He was the second leg on the team and swam a 26.00 during his 50 Yard Freestyle.
Bindewald finished second in both his individual events. He finished the 200 Yard Free in 1:57.66 and the 100 Back in 57.60 seconds. Patterson nearly pulled off a win in the 50 Free, swimming a time of 25.73 seconds, just behind the Yellow Jackets Xavier Hatfield in 25.24 seconds.
Rounding out Wilmington's great day was sophomore
Parker Basener finishing second in a pair of individual events. He finished the 200 Yard IM in 2:08.35 and the 100 Yard Breaststroke in 1:03.15.
