(NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind.) -Â In a tri-match with Manchester University and Kalamazoo College Saturday afternoon, the Quakers fell in both matches. They won the opening set against Kalamazoo, before dropping the next six sets across both matches on Saturday.
Match One – Kalamazoo defeats Wilmington, 3-1Â
In the opening set, up 4-3,
Kyra Frasier hit three service points, concluding with an ace. Later in the match, at 16-12, Frasier had two more consecutive service aces, forcing a Kalamazoo timeout. Neither team in the opening set got much separation, ending with a 25-23 Quakers win.
The second set went much like the first set, with a few sprints by Kalamazoo to conclude with a 25-19 triumph for the Hornets.
The third set saw a long run by Kalamazoo's Lizzy Rachiele. Rachiele took the serve at 4-3 before finally ending with a Baileigh Rieder kill at 11-4. Wilmington never quite recovered, falling 25-13 to go down 2-1.
The final set ended with a couple of small runs by the Hornets before the Hornets finished the match with a fourth set score of 25-18.
Sarah Brown notched 11 kills, five in each of the second and fourth sets.
Andie Dolven dished out 20 assists.
Corissa Oeder had a match-high 16 digs, and
Logan McQuillin added 13 digs.
Match Two – Manchester defeats Wilmington, 3-0
In the second match, small runs got Manchester in front early and kept Wilmington at arm's length the first set, winning 25-22.
The second set saw a Joy Maze service rally take Wilmington from leading 14-13 to trailing 18-15, before dropping the set 25-19.
The final set saw Manchester get on more small rallies, up to 16-9, and then trading points with the Quakers until
Logan McQuillin scored three service points off attack errors by Manchester to narrow the lead to 21-15, but it wouldn't be enough as the Quakers fell 25-17.
Andie Dolven scored another 15 assists, with
Sarah Brown getting a team-high seven kills. Dolven also netted the only two service aces, getting both in the first set.
