Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 (BLUFFTON, Ohio) - The Quakers gained a 3-0 win over Penn State Behrend in the second match of the day at the Sommer Spiketacular in Bluffton on Friday for their first win of the season, despite losing to the host Bluffton Beavers in the first match 3-1. In the first match,
Josie Crabtree had 17 kills,
Andie Dolven 29 assists and 17 digs,
Corissa Oeder had 24 digs and
Logan McQuillin had 16 digs.
In the opening set, it was back and forth through the first full cycle of services. When Dolven was set to start her second service round, the Quakers went on a 3-0 run, going from tied at 10 to leading 12-10, featuring a service ace, and Crabtree kill and block. But the momentum took a violent swing when the next server was set to serve, the Quakers trailed 17-13, before eventually falling 25-18.
The second set saw two major rallies, a 4-service rally by Dolven at the start of the set, and then another Dolven rally, this time with seven serves starting with a 13-12 Quaker lead, before handing it over at 17-13. The set ended with
Emma Specht closing it with a set-winning ace after a four-service rally of her own.
The third set saw an opening kill by Crabtree, before a Jenna Woods kill on the next service set Bluffton up with a 5-1 lead.
Jarika Hart in three rotations later, brought the Quakers back from trailing 9-5 to trailing 10-8. Right after that, another three rotations later, found the Quakers down 20-11. Compliments of a
Trinity VanDusen four-service rally saw the match get as close as 21-15, then Oeder and
Jarika Hart helped bring the gap closer, but it was too little too late as the Quakers lost their second set 25-21.
The final set, the Quakers sprinted out to a 6-1 lead, thanks to a pair of errors and a block by
Baileigh Rieder, and a pair of kills by Crabtree and one by Rieder. The Quakers got out to a 9-3 lead early but let that slip to a 10-10 tie with the Beavers getting three kills of their own, and the Quakers seceding three of their own attack errors. Bluffton went on a major rally creating a 17-12 lead, before winning the set 25-16 and the match 3-1.
We are still awaiting stats and video from the Penn State Behrend match.
