Women's Soccer Plays Tough Defense, Drops 1-0 Decision to Otterbein

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College women's soccer team lost a hard fought, defensive minded, 1-0 match to Otterbein University Wednesday night at Williams Stadium. With the loss, they fall to 7-5-1 and 0-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).

The Quakers didn't take a single shot in the first half, but played tough defense, and made two saves to preserve a 0-0 tie heading into the break. Out of the half, the Quakers played aggressively, earning a quick corner kick and taking two shots within the first 10 minutes of action.

Wilmington had a few shots on goal, but their best look came in the 63rd minute where sophomore Jada Pohlen sent a beautiful shot off her left foot to the top of the net, but Cardinals keeper Ella Scwertfager jumped up to make a great save and keep Wilmington off the board. The Cardinals began to take over the second half and eventually came through with the game-winner in the 85th minute from Morgan Somers off a double assist from Payton Kaufman and Anjuli Anderson.
