BEXLEY, Ohio - The Wilmington College football team trailed by just three points at halftime, but a big second half from Capital University led the Crusaders to a 38-17 victory over the Fightin' Quakers in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

Wilmington's offense struck on the first play from scrimmage as Kyle Barrett found Luke Richardson for a 67-yard touchdown reception. Capital answered by scoring its first two offensive possessions which both ended in rushing scores. As the first quarter closed and the second began, DJ Chambers capped an 8-play, 79-yard drive with a three-yard score to tie the game 14-14.

After both teams punted on their next possessions, the Quaker defense intercepted the OAC's top passer, Thomas Wibbeler, in Wilmington territory, but the turnover was negated due to defensive holding. The Crusaders converted a 28-yard field goal to lead 17-14 at the break.

Wilmington forced two incompletions and a Capital punt to begin the second half, but the Quakers' ensuing drive stalled at midfield. Wibbeler found Kameron Lee for a 7-yard score six plays later, giving Capital a 24-14 advantage.

The Quakers responded with a 13-play, 75-yard drive that stalled after having 1st-and-goal from the three yard line. Tyler Butcher converted a 23-yard field goal to get Wilmington back within a touchdown. Unfortunately for the visitors, that would be their final score of the game. Capital found the end zone two more times to earn the OAC win.

Capital gained 380 total yards compared to 285 for Wilmington. The Crusaders also converted 9-of-17 third down conversions compared to 3-of-11 for the Quakers.

Barrett finished 15-of-30 for 177 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Chambers rushed 13 times for 103 yards and one score while Ace Taylor hauled in seven receptions for 66 yards.

Wibbeler led Capital in passing with 267 yards and rushing with 50. Dartavious Stanford caught 10 passes for 135 yards.

Defensively, Tre'Quez Parks made 13 tackles to lead the Quakers' defensive unit while Aaron Volle and Kyle Ackley both recorded sacks. Kole Carter led the Crusaders with nine tackles.

Wilmington (1-8, 0-8 OAC) hosts Otterbein University for senior day next Saturday.
