@DubC_LQB falls to Marietta

MARIETTA – The Wilmington College women's basketball team fell to Marietta Saturday, 64-57, in Ohio Athletic Conference action at the Ban Johnson Arena.

"We got off to a slow start, which was hampered by the same problem we have been dealing with all season – turnovers and bad shots," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve.

Wilmington trailed for nearly the entire game, but trailed by just four with 58 seconds remaining, and was in position for a defensively stop. However, a foul – as the shot clock was expiring – on a three-point attempt allowed the Pioneers to step to the line. The made all three from the charity stripe to seal the game.

Sophomore Emily Smith (Bellbrook, OH/Bellbrook) and freshman Ashley Ricks (Fairfield, OH/Fairfield) were pivotal in allowed the Fightin' Quakers to stay close. They combined for 19 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.

"We didn't get any offense from our starters in the first half," said Scheve. "They came in and kept us in the game, and they continued to play well in the second half."

Smith finished with 10 points and five rebounds, while Ricks had career-highs in points (nine), rebounds (five) and assists (three).

Freshman Mackenzie Campbell (Cincinnati, OH/Turpin) finished with 14 points, while junior Mary Moyer (Martinsville, OH/Clinton-Massie) pulled down a season-high 13 rebounds.

Wilmington (7-14 overall, 4-10 OAC) hosts Otterbein 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in a crucial Ohio Athletic Conference game.
