Box Score

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OH – The Wilmington College women's soccer team played John Carroll to a scoreless draw in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both teams Saturday.

"A tie is better than a loss, especially on the road," said Wilmington head coach Steve Spirk. "We had our chances to score, and so did they. It was definitely a hard fought game, and it was very physical. I thought they won the first half, and we won the second. We kept them under pressure and we just couldn't find one to fall."

Each goalkeeper stopped all 10 shots they faced in the 110 minutes of soccer. It was the fifth consecutive shutout and the sixth time in seven games the Fightin' Quakers didn't surrender a goal.

The biggest of those stops for Wilmington came late in the second half as junior Ana Hosler (Blanchester, OH/Blanchester) withstood a scrum in the front of the goal, blocking at least three attempts.

"Ana was phenomenal today," said Spirk. "She came out on some balls and blocked some 1v1 chances. There was a scrum in front of the net that hit her three times. I don't know how we didn't allow a goal. It was late in game, and that could have been the game-winner."

Sophomore Taylor Leake (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) finished with a team-high five shots, four of which were on goal. Sophomore Hannah Greaney (Dayton, OH/Carroll) added four shots with three coming on goal.

Wilmington (5-1-3 overall, 0-0-1 OAC) will have its home OAC opener 7 p.m. Tuesday, hosting Capital.
