HIRAM – The Wilmington College men's swimming team claimed the fastest times in 12 of 16 events as the Fightin' Quakers breezed past Hiram, 136-63, Saturday.

"We raced well today," said Wilmington head coach Trip Breen. "We had a couple events where we had to race ourselves. Every meet is a learning experience. We have a week to get ready for the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational. It's a great midseason meet for us."

Senior David Hawk (Edison, OH/Mount Gilead) was a part of three victories – two individual and a relay. Hawk won the 200 freestyle (2:02.41) and the 100 freestyle (56.35). He teamed with freshman Andrew Stewart (Wilmington, OH/Clinton-Massie), junior Brendan Tirado (Dayton, OH/Oakwood) and freshman Nick DeWald (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Dwenger) won the 200 freestyle relay.

Junior David Spraul (Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) won the 100 butterfly (1:03.17) and had the fastest time in the 400 freestyle (4:32.40). Stewart won the 50 freestyle (25.70) and turned in a "nice surprise" to have the fastest time in the 100 backstroke (1:06.06).

Senior Curtis Richards (Defiance, OH/Ayersville) was on the 800 freestyle (9:51.22) and freshman Ben Ball (Gallipolis, OH/Gallia Academy) was second (11:04.84).

"Ben Ball was in a dogfight," said Breen. "It was tough race and Ben showed strength and courage to out touch his opponent for second. It was fun to watch."

Freshman Lawrence Daya (North Canton, OH/Glen Oak) won the 50 backstroke (31.03), sophomore Cody Nash (Fresno, CA/Kingsbury) had the fastest times in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.10) and sophomore Alex Tillapaugh (Wilmington, OH/Wickenburg (AZ)) has the fastest time in the 50 butterfly (28.17).

"Hayes showed how strong he is," said Breen. "It was a tight race and was a great swim for him."

Wilmington travels to Delaware, OH for the two-day Ohio Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
