Sophomore Taylor Scott scored her first two goals of her career as the Wilmington College women's soccer team recorded their first win of the season, beating Bluffton Saturday, 3-0, at Williams Stadium.

Scott (Lynchburg, OH/Lynchburg-Clay) came to Wilmington after a stellar prep career, and has seized her opportunities today. She gave the Fightin' Quakers the lead in the 11th minute, taking a pass from senior Angela Phillips (Union, OH/Northmont) down the right flank and drilled a rocket past the goalkeeper from 13 yards out.

"Taylor Scott came up big for us today with five shots and two on goal, and was able to score with both attempts on goal," said Wilmington head coach Steve Spirk. "She didn't score for us as a freshman, and I think she has the potential to be a good forward. She is learning the game; the skills needed to be a forward, and she helped us out today."

She was the recipient of being in the right place at the right time on the team's second goal in the 21st minute. Senior Camille Gentile (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) laid a nice pass to the middle of the box that Scott simply redirected into the goal.

Wilmington continued to apply constant pressure on the Beavers as evident with the 19 total shots unleashed. Eight of those shots came in the first half.

"We had some chances, but it's just like the other games," said Spirk. "We had some chances that we didn't put away, but today we also scored some nice goals. It's good to score some goals, number one, and it was good to get in the win column. I think this will give us a lot of confidence as we head into next week."

Gentile capped the scoring with six seconds remaining taking a pass from freshman Stephanie Randolph (Monroe, OH/Monroe), who was near the left corner, and deposited into the back of the net.

While the offense was seemingly beginning to click, the WC defense held Bluffton to just four shots – three of which were on goal. Senior Taylor Franklin (Delaware, OH/Rutherford B. Hayes) made all three saves for the shutout.

"Defensively, Ashley (Stockton) in the middle, along with Sammi (Miller), did a good job," said Spirk. "We got some great runs from the back with Mellonee Hall – who we just moved back there – and Morgan Combs had a good game from the back as well."

Wilmington (1-3) travels to Mount St. Joseph 7 p.m. Wednesday in non-conference action.
